USB Command Set Info or Service Utility Wanted

I'm seeking USB command set information for both the Epson 980 and the Canon i550 printers, or any kind of software utility that sends commands to the printers, or a primer on transmitting USB commands.In the case of the Epson 980, I temporarily removed the battery (oops), which erased the drive voltage info from the printer's ram. I have the voltage info, so I just need a way to send that info to the printer. (Epson has a service software utility that does this and other things, but they won't release it to anyone outside of Epson and it's service centers.)For the Canon i550, I need to send a command to reset it's cleaning pump status (it was saturated, then cleaned, but it thinks it's still saturated).Any information or techniques for querying the printers to nudge them to reveal their command sets would be highly appreciated. Or even just a reference regarding the basics of sending commands on a USB port would be appreciated.Noncommercial use - I'm simply trying to revive my printers to avoid an unnecessary waste of hardware.
